We spent a day in Kyoto, where Shin went to college. Having been there once before, I'd seen many of the tourist attractions, so it was nice to visit just a few things at leisurely pace. First stop was Ginkaku-ji, the Silver Pavilion; a Zen temple built in the 1400's. Thought to be the place where the Japanese concept of Wabi-Sabi originated, I was completely enamored with the temple's rustic style and peaceful, simplistic, yet perfectly manicured gardens.
From the Silver Pavilion we took a leisurely stroll along the Philosopher's Walk, a beautiful path along a canal nestled alongside the mountains.
